Guilty plea for D.C. man in July killing

A 33-year-old D.C. man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed Friday in connection with a July killing in Southeast, authorities said.

Calvin “Dough” Monroe was charged in the July 7 killing of Lonnie Whitted, 27. Authorities said Monroe approached Whitted in the 1900 of 18th Street SE, shooting him several times.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 18, according to authorities. Monroe’s plea is conditional, pending the court’s approval of a sentence of 17 to 23 years.
