Gulf Power worker helping to restore electricity dies in multiple vehicle crash in Loudoun

A utility worker who was helping restore power in Loudoun County died Tuesday night when her truck careened into several other vehicles near Bluemont, Loudoun County police said.

At around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday night, Jacqueline Green of Milton, Fla., a Gulf Power employee for more than 20 years, was driving a truck north on Blue Ridge Mountain Road when her brakes apparently failed, police said. They said the investigation into the cause continues.

The truck then rammed into another truck on Route 7, which then hit a Toyota Tacoma, according to police. Green died at the scene, police said.

“She worked with us for 22 years, she was a female working in a predominantly male dominated job area, she was a great employee,” said Gulf Power spokeswoman Sandy Sims.

The truck driven by Green was the second vehicle in a convoy of three, and passed the first vehicle before she crashed, said Loudoun County sheriff’s spokeswoman Liz Mills.

The workers from Gulf Power were helping Dominion Virginia Power in the aftermath of the weekend’s storms, police said.

Police said the two people in the Tacoma were treated at a hospital and released. Jonathan Powell, also a utility worker with Gulf Power, was riding in Green’s truck and was taken to a hospital in the area after the crash, police said. Powell was in serious condition, Mills said.

The driver of the truck Green crashed into was also taken to a hospital. Updates on the status of Powell or the driver of the other truck were not immediately available.

“We extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends and coworkers of our fallen collegauge who will long be remembered for traveling so far to help the people of Virginia in our time of need,” Dominion spokeswoman Daisy Pridgen said.
