Hate crime investigated in Montgomery County

Repeated incidents of disorderly conduct, vandalism and the yelling of racial slurs outside a Gaithersburg home are being investigated as a hate crime, police said.

On Tuesday, at about 8:49 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 20300 block of Swallow Point Road on a disorderly conduct report.

The homeowners told police that a group of juveniles was ringing the doorbell and running away, and also throwing trash and orange construction cones on the property.

When police arrived, the juveniles were no longer in the area.

The following day, on Wednesday at about 4:39 p.m., officers were called to the same home.

The homeowners told police that they heard banging on the front door and crashing sounds coming from outside.

When the homeowners opened the front door, police said, they saw five juveniles on the sidewalk.

Police said that the juveniles yelled racial slurs and told the homeowners to “go back to India.” They then ran away.

No one was injured in either incident, but police said there were boot prints, deep scratches and dents in the front door of the home.

The juveniles are described as a group of five black boys and one black girl.

Anyone with information can call 240-773-6237 or text messaging “MCPD” plus the tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
