Hearing scheduled in case of Marine’s D.C. killing

A preliminary hearing in the case of the man charged with murder in a fellow Marine’s stabbing death in the District is scheduled for Wednesday.

It was originally to take place Tuesday morning.

Michael Joseph Poth, 20, is charged in the late April death of Philip M. Bushong, 23.

Poth was charged with second-degree murder while armed and was ordered held ahead of the hearing set to take place in D.C. Superior Court.

Investigators have said they do not believe Poth and Bushong knew each other before the altercation near the Marine Corps barracks on 8th St. SE that ultimately ended in Bushong’s death.
