Herndon man found dead after hit-and-run identified as victim’s husband

Herndon police identified a woman killed in a Wednesday hit-and-run as 35-year-old Simret Tekle Woldetensae and said her husband was found dead near the crash scene.

Police said they are still working to determine how Fitsum A. Gebretatios, 32, died. They had been searching for him after his wife was found dead early Wednesday and his Toyota was found crashed into a parked car about a block away.

Woldetensae and Gebretatios lived in the 600 block of Center Street, near the scene of the hit-and-run, police said.

Their three young children, who authorities said had been found home alone, were taken into the custody of Child Protective Services.
