Human remains found in burned dumpster

Prince William County police discovered burned human remains after a dumpster fire outside of a Woodbridge-area apartment complex Wednesday.

Prince William fire and rescue officials were first called to the scene about 9:50 a.m. after someone passing by reported the fire outside the Bayvue Apartments in the 1200 block of Bayside Avenue, police said.

Once the fire was extinguished, fire officials saw what they believed to be human remains, police said. The medical examiner, along with Prince William police, arrived shortly after 10 a.m. and confirmed the discovery.

Police are working to identify the body, and no age or gender is known at this time. The fire marshal’s office is also investigating the cause of the fire.
