Infant dies after being left in bathtub

Authorities are investigating the death of an11-month-old girl who died after being left alone in a bath tub in a Germantown home, police said.

Montgomery County investigators said that family members left the 11 month-old alone in a bath tub Sunday for a brief period of time. When a family member checked on the infant girl, she was unresponsive, police said. Neighbors were alerted and began performing CPR, police said.

Montgomery County fire rescue and police police responded at 3 p.m. to the home in the 18000 block of Cottage Garden Drive and transported the child by ambulance to a local hospital. The girl was then taken by helicopter to Children’s National Medical Center in the District, where she was pronounced dead early Monday morning.

The D.C. Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy. Montgomery County child protective services will also investigate the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Montgomery County police at 240-773-5070.
