Inmates to give gift to young cancer patients

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Maximum-security inmates at a state prison near Cumberland are making a gift to childhood cancer patients.

They have made more than 2,000 colorful pillowcases that will be presented Tuesday to the ConKerr Cancer Foundation during a ceremony at the Western Correctional Institution.

The inmates have made more than 5,000 pillowcases for the charity since 2009.

ConKerr Cancer is based in Wayne, Pa. The group was founded by Cindy Kerr, whose son died at 17 of bone cancer.
