The federal investigation of District Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s 2010 mayoral campaign is “continuing,” a federal prosecutor said during a brief court hearing Tuesday morning.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ellen Chubin Esptein made the disclosure during a status conference for Thomas W. Gore, a former assistant treasurer for the Gray (D) campaign. Gore pleaded guilty in May to helping to secretly finance the campaign of a minor candidate to bolster his boss’s prospects and then destroying a ledger detailing the payoffs.
Epstein said Gore’s “obligations” under the deal are continuing. Gore’s attorney, Frederick D. Cooke Jr., told the judge that he hoped his client’s involvement in “that part of the process” will be brought “to closure, sooner rather than later.”
No sentencing date has been set for Gore because he is cooperating with federal prosecutors as part of his plea deal.
U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly set another status conference for Dec. 12.
