Juvenile held after Va. girl, 12, shot dead

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A 12-year-old Chesapeake girl is dead and a male juvenile is in police custody following a shooting.

Chesapeake police spokeswoman Kelly O’Sullivan says the shooting occurred Tuesday at an apartment complex where the victim and the boy both lived. She did not provide further details.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released.

Deep Creek Middle School English teacher Tyra Young tells media outlets that the girl was a student at the school.
