Knife-wielding man in wheelchair arrested after stealing items, police say

A knife-wielding man in a wheelchair stole items from a CVS near the Arlington courthouse but was caught shortly after, police said.

It happened Thursday just after 6 p.m. when the man in the wheelchair came into the pharmacy in the 2100 block of North 15th Street, hid some items in his backpack and left without paying, according to Arlington police.

An employee went outside, found the man and wheeled him back into the store, police said. The man then pulled a knife and wheeled himself back out, police said.

Police found him nearby at the Courthouse Metro station, where he had the knife and store merchandise, according to police. William L. Chase Jr., 45, of the District was arrested and charged with armed robbery. He was held without bond.
