Leesburg fire caused by arson

A fire that damaged the building housing the Loudoun County Department of Community Corrections in Leesburg Wednesday was determined to be caused by arson, authorities said Friday.

No one was injured as a result of the fire, which was quickly extinguished after fire and rescue units responded to the scene around 6:15 a.m.Wednesday, authorities said.

But damage to the building was extensive — estimated at $200,000 — and the Community Corrections staff has since been relocated to a building on Edwards Ferry Road, N.E. in Leesburg until further notice, according to county officials.

Authorities on Friday asked the public for help identifying who deliberately set the fire. Anyone with information should call the Leesburg Crime Line at 703-443-8477 or e-mail vgrigsby@leesburgva.gov.
