Life in prison for Va. man after slaying wife

CULPEPER, Va. — A Greene County man has been sentenced to life in prison in the 2006 slaying of his wife.

Media outlets report Eric Dee Abshire maintained his innocence before being sentenced Thursday in Orange County Circuit Court.

The 36-year-old Abshire was convicted of first-degree murder in October.

State Police found the body of 27-year-old Justine Abshire along state Route 618 in November 2006. Investigators determined the hit-and-run accident was staged. Prosecutors said Eric Abshire wanted to gain financially through insurance payoffs.
