Death of man found in van ruled a homicide

This post has been updated.

The death of a 19-year-old Virginia man whose body was found in a vehicle that had crashed into a barrier in Vienna on Friday night has been ruled a homicide, according to Fairfax County police.

Authorities said the victim had suffered trauma to his upper body that was unrelated to the impact of the car, police said. The man was identified Saturday as Zavier O. Stringfellow, who lived just off I-66 between Gainesville and Manassas.

Fairfax County police said Stringfellow’s body was found Friday about 7 p.m. inside a minivan at the end of a service road near Chain Bridge Road and Glengyle Drive.

Police said Stringfellow was pronounced dead at the scene.

A department spokeswoman, Lucy H. Caldwell, said an autopsy performed Saturday confirmed the cause of death. No other information was made available.
