Man, 19, stabbed outside Minnesota Avenue Metro station

A 19-year-old man was stabbed during a fight outside the Minnesota Avenue Metro station in Northeast D.C. on Sunday morning, authorities said.

The fight apparently began as a verbal exchange between the victim and another man as they waited for the station to open some time before 7 a.m., Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said.

Stessel said the fight escalated, and one man stabbed the other with a razor or box cutter. The suspect fled before D.C. police and Metro transit police arrived. Police have not made an arrest in the case, and they have not released any information about the assailant.

The victim suffered a cut to his lower torso, an injury that is believed to be non-life threatening, Stessel said. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Stessel said investigators have not yet spoken to the victim, and they do not yet know if the victim and the suspect know each other, or what their fight was about.

The Minnesota Avenue Metro station remained closed Sunday morning until about 8 a.m. due to the investigation.
