Man, 23, fatally shot in Southeast D.C.

Police have identified a man who was shot and killed in Southeast D.C. early Sunday.

Angelo Alphonso Payne, 23, was fatally shot shortly after midnight in the 3400 block of Croffut Place SE, police said.

Officers responding to the report of gunshots in the area found Payne suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died, police said.

Police have not released suspect information or a possible motive in the shooting.
