Man accused of stealing $25,000 diamond

A District man was arrested in connection with the theft of a $25,000 diamond ring from a jewelry store in Old Town Alexandria, police said.

William Earles, 50, was arrested at his home on Thursday and charged with grand larceny, according to Alexandria police. He is expected to be extradited to Alexandria.

He was arrested about a week after police released a store surveillance picture of a man they believe took the ring on July 24th from Kings Jewelers, 609 King Street.

The man asked to look at diamond rings then walked out with an expensive one without paying for it.
