Man charged in Fairfax City hit and run

A driver has been charged with a June hit and run in Fairfax City that left a pedestrian critically injured, the city’s police department said.

Leon Andrew D. Oliveira, 35, of Fairfax City was arrested after meeting with investigators at Fairfax City police headquarters Tuesday, police said.

Police said they think Oliveira was behind the wheel when a vehicle ran onto a sidewalk on Fairfax Boulevard on June 15 and struck the pedestrian, police said. The driver continued without stopping.

Investigators released a photo of the vehicle taken by cameras on Fairfax Boulevard. The exposure in the media generated leads and the vehicle and driver were identified, police said.

The critically injured pedestrian remains in treatment and faces a lengthy recovery, police said. The 33-year-old victim was not identified.

It is the second arrest in a serious hit-and-run in Fairfax City this year.
