Man set for Md. murder trial wants postponement

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A New York man set to be tried next month for a fatal shooting in Hagerstown wants his trial to be postponed because some witnesses can’t be found.

Twenty-five-year-old Joshua Edwards of Brooklyn, N.Y. is accused of murder in the shooting of Jackson Rodriguez in 2006. Edwards was arrested in England in 2007 and fought extradition. He was returned to the U.S. in July.

The Hagerstown Herald-Mail reports that Edwards’ attorney, Bernard Semler II, said in Washington County Circuit Court Wednesday that he will request a postponement of the Dec. 19 trial. Semler said addresses provided for many of the 30 witnesses the state has subpoenaed are from 2006.

Prosecutors said the state will oppose a continuance.
