Man sets house on fire, dies in Md

A man died after allegedly setting his house on fire during a domestic incident, Prince George’s County police said.

Police got a call at about 5 p.m. Sunday from a woman who said she was trying to end her relationship with a man and was afraid because he had fired a gun in his basement.

The woman escaped from the home, in the 10000 block of Behun Drive, and the man barricaded himself down there with several guns, police said.

There was a standoff with police, and at about 10:30 p.m., he set several small fires in the basement, police said. Rescue workers found him dead inside shortly after.

Firefighters sprayed water on nearby homes to keep the blaze from spreading, and when police gave the “coast is clear” signal, rescuers entered and extinguished the blaze, authorities said.

The home was deemed a complete loss, and the man was found dead inside, police and fire officials said. Police have not yet released his name.
