Man stabbed on Metrobus after trying to steal cellphone

A man was stabbed Sunday morning aboard a Metrobus after he tried to steal a sleeping passenger’s cellphone, Metro officials said.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on a Route 92 bus that was headed north on 8th Street NE, crossing East Capital Street, according to Metro officials.

A man was asleep on the bus when another passenger tried to rob him of his cell phone. Witnesses on the bus told police that the sleeping passenger woke up in surprise and the two men began fighting.

The previously sleeping passenger stabbed the alleged robber before fleeing. The man who was stabbed was taken to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to Dan Stessel, Metro chief spokesman.

It is the second stabbing on a Metrobus this year.
