Man stabs woman, flees on Metro train

A man stabbed a woman Monday afternoon in Southeast Washington and then escaped into a Metro station, where witnesses told police he boarded a Green Line train, according to D.C. police.

D.C. police also said they have stopped a possible suspect and were questioning him at 6th and H streets NW, a block from the Gallery Place Metro, which is on the Green Line.

Officer Paul Metcalf, a police spokesman, said the attack occurred about 2:40 p.m. in the 1300 block of Alabama Ave. SE, near the Congress Heights Metro.

Police said the woman was conscious and breathing at the scene and was rushed to a hospital; her condition could not immediately be learned.

Metcalf said the man, about 40-years-old and wearing a gray jacket and a blue uniform like a mechanic might wear, jumped a subway turnstile and apparently got on a train headed toward Anacostia.
