Man, woman charged with trying to smuggle drugs in Bible

LYNCHBURG, Va. — A man and woman are facing charges after police say they tried to smuggle drugs into the Amherst jail hidden in a Bible.

Media outlets reported Tuesday that investigators seized the Bible and found the drugs last week.

Amherst County Sheriff’s officials say 27-year-old Milton Ray “Scooter” Branham and 25-year-old Tamisha Nicole Hart of Arrington were arrested and charged with willfully conspiring to deliver a controlled substance to a confined prisoner.

Branham is being held without bond because he was already in jail when he was charged.

Hart was released on bond.
