Manassas man uses guitar to thwart home intruder

A guitar-wielding Manassas man struck an intruder in the face with his musical instrument, sending him tumbling down a flight of stairs and rendering him unconscious until police arrived.

InsideNova.com reports that John Marc Mayhew, 32, of Palmyra, allegedly tried to enter a the home in the 9700 block of Grant Avenue on Saturday morning.

The resident of the home blocked Mayhew from entering through the front door and hit him with the guitar when Mayhew tried to enter through the back, police said.

Mayhew fell down a set of steps outside the house and passed out, police said. He was transported to a local hospital, where police said he spit at an officer.

Mayhew is charged with unlawful entry, assault on a law enforcement officer and public intoxication. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 15.
