Maryland man, 19, dies in Wednesday evening crash

A 19-year-old from Lusby, Md. was killed in a Wednesday evening crash, authorities said.

Police responding to the 600 block of Gunsmoke Trail in Lusby at about 8:29 p.m. found a Jeep Liberty in a wooded area, according to a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office news release. Investigators determined that the Jeep’s driver lost control during a turn, causing the Jeep to drive through a residence’s front yard, hitting a tree on the passenger side.

The Jeep’s passenger, Justin Earle Wilder, died of his injuries at a hospital, police said.

The driver, another 19-year-old from Lusby, survived, according to police. Charges against him are pending, authorities said, and the incident is still under investigation.
