Four men have been charged with illegal hunting after an outing in Fort Washington ended with one of their companions getting shot in the stomach, the Baltimore Sun reports.
According to the Maryland Natural Resources Police, 59-year-old Ricky Johnson of Clinton was accidentally shot in the abdomen and knee Saturday afternoon while he and a group of four friends were hunting deer in a wooded area near the intersection of Indian Head Highway and Old Fort Road.
Johnson was allegedly shot by 57-year-old Roy Contee of Upper Marlboro when a deer came into view.
Contee missed the deer but struck Johnson, police said. He was taken to Prince George’s County Hospital for treatment.
Although police are continuing to investigate the non-fatal shooting, Contee and three others — 33-year-old Bryan Creek and 66-year-old James Creek of Capitol Heights, and 56-year-old Marcus Johnson of Fort Washington — have been charged for hunting without permission on property owned by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
