FREDERICK, Md. — A court document says Frederick County sheriff’s deputies fired at least 18 shots at a Mount Airy teenager who was killed after police say he refused to drop a shotgun.
The Frederick News-Post reported Tuesday on the results of the raid last week at 19-year-old Daniel Vail’s apartment.
A Vail family attorney gave the newspaper a court document listing evidence gathered by officers who served a search warrant at the address.
The inventory included 18 9mm shell casings. It also included a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with seven slugs. More slugs were found next to Vail’s bed.
The sheriff’s office says deputies Charles Zang and Kevin Riffle found Vail in his bedroom, pointing a shotgun toward them.
Vail was the suspected gunman in a failed home-invasion robbery two days earlier.
