Md. inmate who walked off work detail recaptured

A Maryland inmate who walked away from a work detail in Glen Burnie on Wednesday morning was recaptured that night, authorities said.

Derontay Lee Simms, 20, walked away from a landfill around 10:35 a.m., Anne Arundel Police said Thursday. He was found in Baltimore around 10:45 p.m.

According to online court records, Simms was serving time at the Ordnance Road Correctional Center in Glen Burnie in connection with a March assault charge. A hearing in the case had been scheduled for Monday.

He was charged with second-degree escape on Wednesday, police said.
