Md. mall guard charged in theft of gold dealer’s safe

HANOVER, Md. — Anne Arundel County Police say a security guard at Arundel Mills mall has been charged with stealing a safe from a gold dealer’s kiosk.

Twenty-two-year-old John Thomas Cook IV of Millersville was arrested Monday and charged with theft between $10,000 and $100,000. He was released on $25,000 bond.

The Capital in Annapolis reported that police were called to the Gold Rush kiosk on Sunday after the safe was reported stolen. Police reviewed security tapes and identified Cook as a suspect.

On Monday, police executed a search warrant on Cook’s home and allegedly found jewelry and cash that belonged to Gold Rush.
