An 18-year-old Maryland man has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses after a Saturday shooting that sent two people to the hospital with life-threatening wounds, authorities said.

According to the Charles County sheriff’s office, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 6600 block of Bucknell Road in Bryans Road shortly after midnight. They received a report of another shooting in the 2400 block of Gerard Court about the same time.

At the first location, they found a 16-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds; at the second, they found a 19-year-old male gunshot victim. Both were taken to hospitals for life-threatening wounds, authorities said.

Police say an investigation revealed that the 16-year-old and friends were in an altercation with the 19-year-old and friends, during which shots were fired. Police say the altercation may have been the result of a robbery attempt, though they did not further detail that theory.

Terence Dyson of Pomfret, a friend of the 19-year-old victim, has been charged with attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, theft and a gun charge, according to authorities.
