Md. man charged with impersonating Va. state trooper

PARKVILLE, Md. — Baltimore County officials say a 59-year-old Parkville man has been charged with impersonating a police officer.

Police said Thursday that Derek John Propalis was arrested last month after a county officer pulled him over for speeding in the Parkville area and discovered he was wearing a Virginia State Police uniform.

Authorities say the man’s Ford Crown Victoria had been set up with emergency lights, a spotlight, a laptop computer, a siren with a public address system and a video monitoring system. Authorities say the laptop and video system did not work.

Police say they found badges, patches and uniforms from various police agencies at Propalis’ home. Authorities say they recovered real and replica weapons, ammunition, gun belts, pepper spray and inert hand grenades.

Propalis is currently on home detention.
