Md. summit to tackle witness intimidation

BALTIMORE — The top prosecutor in the city that helped popularize the “Stop Snitching” slogan is hosting a summit aimed at a culture of witness intimidation.

Baltimore State’s Attorney Gregg Bernstein is hosting the summit at the University of Baltimore Law School on Tuesday.

The summit will bring together federal and state officials from around the region to share the best ways to protect victims and witnesses from intimidation.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, who has fought for greater protections for witnesses and tougher punishments for intimidators, will speak and the opening session will feature Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Ronald Machen Jr. and others.

Sessions closed to the public will discuss the impact of gangs on witness cooperation and when witnesses should be relocated.
