Montgomery County Police Capt. Russell Hamill, commander of the department’s Bethesda district, will be nominated to the post of Assistant Police Chief in charge of the Investigative Services Bureau, Police Chief J. Thomas Manger said Friday.
Hamill, a 25-year veteran of the department with a law degree, fills the vacancy left by the retirement of Assistant Chief Drew J. Tracy. The Investigative Services Bureau includes the department’s Major Crimes, Family Crimes and other detective divisions.
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) will nominate Hamill for the position, which must be approved by the County Council, said Manger, who recommended Hamill for the post.
“Russ has got a wealth of experience He’s an attorney and, frankly, his judgment and work ethic are unsurpassed,” Manger said.
