Murder charge for D.C. man in Tuesday afternoon stabbing

D.C. police have charged a man with murder in a deadly Tuesday afternoon stabbing attack that took place in an alley behind a recreation center.

Police identified the victim as Alicia Wheeler, 42, of Northeast. She was found suffering from multiple lacerations and stab wounds and was pronounced dead.

The suspect, Claude Kinney, 48, also of Northeast, has been charged with first-degree murder while armed.

The killing appeared to have resulted from a domestic dispute, police said. Officers called to the 1200 block of Morse Street NE just after 3 p.m. found Wheeler suffering from stab wounds near the Joseph H. Cole Recreation Center.

Kinney was taken into custody shortly thereafter, police said.
