Murder charge for District man after Saturday shooting

A 23-year-old Northeast man has been charged with murder in a Saturday afternoon killing.

Police responded to the 700 block of Kenilworth Terrace NE about 1:40 p.m. for reports of the sound of gunshots. They found James Ray Sherrod, 22, of Northeast, suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

Sherrod died at a hospital, according to authorities.

Police said they arrested Dietrich Baker on Monday afternoon, charging him with second-degree murder while armed in Sherrod’s killing.
