Murder charge for Md. inmate in cellmate’s death

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A state prison inmate faces a first-degree murder charge in the beating and asphyxiation of his cellmate at the Western Correctional Institution near Cumberland.

Prosecutors say an Allegany County grand jury indicted 28-year-old Kim Hargett Wednesday in the Feb. 2 death of Blas Ramon Mata Aguilar.

Hargett was sentenced in 2007 to 30 years for two counts of second-degree murder and a drug conviction in Baltimore city. He received a concurrent, three-year sentence in Anne Arundel County in 2010 for possessing prison contraband.

Aguilar was serving 11 years for rape and sexual offenses in Montgomery County, and an assault in Anne Arundel County.
