New Year’s Day fire destroys vacant home in Clinton

A fire broke out at a vacant house in Prince George’s County on New Year’s Day, causing significant damage but no injuries, officials said.

Officials said the fire began sometime before 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday in a two-story, single-family home in the 8200 block of Student Drive in Clinton.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire visible in the structure. As they battled the flames from outside, the fire consumed the roof of the house, officials said. It took about an hour to extinguish the blaze.

Officials said the home was vacant and unoccupied. There were no reports of any injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
