No contest plea for former Va. deputy in shooting

ROANOKE, Va. — A former Franklin County deputy will be sentenced in May to charges stemming from the shooting of a Virginia State Police sergeant.

Jonathan Agee on Tuesday pleaded no contest in Montgomery County to attempted capital murder, aggravated malicious wounding and related charges.

Earlier this month, the 33-year-old Agee pleaded no contest in Roanoke Circuit Court to first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his ex-wife, Jennifer Agee. The shooting occurred on Memorial Day 2011 in the parking lot of a convenience store in Roanoke.

Former state police Sgt. Matthew Brannock was wounded during a chase on Interstate 81 shortly after the Roanoke shooting occurred.

The Roanoke Times reports that Agee is set to be sentenced on all of the charges at a hearing in Roanoke Circuit Court on May 6.
