A Prince George’s County police officer shot and killed an armed man Monday night during a confrontation in the Landover area, authorities said.
The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. in the 8100 block of Sheriff Road, when an officer on patrol spotted three people who appeared suspicious. They fled when he approached. He caught one and a struggle broke out.
The officer used his Taser, said Cpl. Larry Johnson, a police spokesman. The man pulled out the prongs that some Tasers use to administer an electrical shock.
After the man drew a gun from his waistband, the officer fired his own gun, Johnson said.
The officer was placed on administrative leave as a matter of routine.
