Officer’s gun fires after hospital struggle in Md.

TOWSON, Md. — Baltimore County police say an officer’s weapon discharged during a struggle with a prisoner at a hospital emergency room. No one was hurt.

Authorities say the officer was guarding a prisoner at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson about 2:35 p.m. Wednesday. Police say hospital staff found that the prisoner had a needle hidden in his clothing.

Police say the prisoner grabbed a staffer and the officer intervened. The two struggled over the officer’s gun and the weapon discharged into a wall.

Pepper spray was used but did not subdue the prisoner, who was subdued by other officers.
