One dead after crash in Laurel

Police have identified the driver who died after Thursday collision between a tractor trailer and a box truck in Laurel.

The crash occurred about 11:05 a.m. in the 13500 block of Virginia Manor Road, police said. Cpl. Henry Tippett, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said the box truck was traveling north and veered into the southbound lane, where it struck the tractor-trailer headed in the opposite direction.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital, where driver of the box truck — Leroy Russell Odom, 44, of Gaithersburg — later died, police said. Tippett said it remains unclear why he swerved into oncoming traffic. Speed and alcohol, he said, do not appear to be factors in the collision.
