One dead in Fairfax County crash

Virginia State Police said they are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 66 in Fairfax County Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded around 12:30 p.m. to the crash, in which a van struck the rear of a tractor-trailer just east of the Manassas Safety Welcome Center, authorities said. Police say the van’s driver has died.

According to authorities, the driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured, and no one else was in either vehicle. Police did not release the name or gender of the victim, saying they are still notifying next of kin.

Police did not say whether the incident involved speeding or intoxication, but they said the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
