One dead, one hurt after crash in Clinton

A 51-year-old woman died and a 68-year-old man was critically injured Sunday night after their vehicles collided in the Clinton area of Prince George’s County, authorities said.

The woman, Yvonne Walker Cunningham, of Laurel, was driving a Toyota 4Runner east on Old Alexandria Ferry Road near Heflin Drive when she swerved into a Ford F-150 headed in the same direction, said Cpl. Larry Johnson, a Prince George’s County police spokesman. The impact sent the F-150 into a tree, and Cunningham’s vehicle eventually came to rest in the roadway, Johnson said.

Johnson said Cunningham was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash, and the driver of the F-150, a 68-year-old man, was flown to the hospital. He remained hospitalized Monday, Johnson said.

The crash occurred just before 10 p.m., Johnson said. He said speed appeared to be a factor in causing the accident, but alcohol did not.
