Parents charged with neglect in drowning of baby in Reston hotel bathtub

The parents of a 1-year-old girl who drowned in a Reston hotel room bathtub in September have been charged with child abuse and neglect, Fairfax County police said.

Wafy Abdullah Almutiri, 27, and Maryam Masaad Almutiri, 21, of Fairfax, turned themselves in on Monday, police said.

Officers were called to the Westin Hotel in the 11700 block of Sunrise Valley Drive on around 8:15 p.m on Sept. 18 for a report of an apparent drowning, police said. Police found the body of Wreef Wafy Almutiri inside the hotel room.

Wreef’s parents were located on the scene.

A police spokesman Monday declined to discuss the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
