Pasadena man dies after motorcycle crashes into woods

A 52-year-old Pasadena man died Saturday after his motorcycle left the road and crashed into a wooded area in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel Police said.

James Alton Cockrell had just left a restaurant and was riding a homemade motorcycle on Nabbs Creek Road with two other bikers when the group rounded a sharp bend at about 6:45 p.m.. Police said they believe a car driving in the opposite direction might have crossed the center line, leading the motorcyclist in front of Cockrell to lie down in the roadway.

Cockrell tried to stop, went off the road into the woods, and fell off his motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Cockrell was not wearing an approved helmet. Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash, police said.
