Pedestrian fatally struck by van in Temple Hills

A pedestrian was killed Monday after being struck and trapped under a school maintenance van in Temple Hills, Prince George’s County police said.

Bernadette Tucker Butler, 48, was hit by the van as it was backing up in the parking lot of the Samuel Chase Elementary School, 5700 block of Fisher Road, police said.

Butler, of the 5900 block of Moritz Drive, was walking behind the van as she attempted to cross the parking lot.

Police said that neither alcohol nor speed appear to have caused the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, police said.
