Pedestrian killed in Prince George’s hit-and-run

A woman believed to be in her late 20s was apparently killed by a hit-and-run driver shortly after midnight Sunday on Route 3 in Prince George’s County, Maryland State Police said.

The unidentified woman was struck by at least one vehicle and found in the right, northbound lane of the highway in Bowie just south of Route 450, troopers said. An investigation is continuing.

Police said a motorist who called 911 shortly after 12:30 a.m. reported that a pedestrian was walking in the roadway. Other calls moments later reported the pedestrian had been struck by a car that left the area.

Witnesses reported seeing a light-colored vehicle stopped near the scene, and another witness reported seeing two people standing near a light-colored vehicle with a broken windshield and damaged hood in a nearby parking lot, police said.

The Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore will perform an autopsy.
