Person dies in vehicle fire in Laurel

A ramp from Route 198 to Interstate 95 in Laurel is closed as authorities investigate an overnight vehicle fire that killed one person, Prince George’s County fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 3:50 a.m. and found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames on the on-ramp, said Mark Brady, a spokesman for the county fire department.

Firefighters doused the flames and discovered the body of a person inside the car, according to Brady. The body was so badly burned that authorities have yet to determine the person’s age or sex.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the fire, Brady said. It’s unclear how long the on-ramp will be closed, but Brady said it is not causing major traffic problems.
