Police: Carjacking suspects lead police on chase

Two armed men stole a sports car in Odenton at gunpoint overnight and then led police on a chase from Anne Arundel County tothe District, where one of the suspects was arrested and the other remains at large, police said.

Around 2:20 a.m., a driver getting out of his Nissan 350 Z in the 2100 block of Peaceful Way noticed a silver car pulling up near him, said Lt. James Fredericks, a police spokesman in Anne Arundel County, where Odenton is located.

The occupants of the silver car, who were brandishing guns, got out and demanded the keys to the Nissan, according to Fredericks.

The suspects then fled in the Nissan, and the victim called police, Fredericks said. Anne Arundel County police soon spotted the car and gave chase on southbound Interstate 295, Fredericks said.

The officers pursued the suspects through Prince George’s County and into Northeast Washington, where the suspects may have crashed the car or simply abandoned it near Route 50, according to Fredericks.

Police took one of the suspects into custody just before 3 a.m., but the other is still at large, Fredericks said. The name of the arrested man was not released.

I-295 was shut down early Friday morning as police investigated the incident. It reopened by 5 a.m..
