Police cruiser hits cars, house in Manassas crash

Manassas police are investigating a crash involving a police cruiser on Friday night.

An officer was injured, and residents were displaced after the police cruiser careened into a house.

The police officer was responding to a call around 8:50 p.m. when the officer lost control of the cruiser, hitting hit another car, as well as a parked vehicle near the intersection of Buckner Road and Grant Avenue, according to police. The cruiser then struck a house on Grant near Byrd Drive, said Sgt. Eddie Rivera, a police department spokesman.

The officer and the driver of the car that was hit were taken to an area hospital and released Saturday morning, Rivera said.

The house’s residents were relocated to a Red Cross shelter after officials determined that the family’s home needed repairs to ensure its structural integrity, according to police.

Rivera said more details about the crash would likely be released this week. As is “common practice” with the police department, the officer involved in the crash was not identified, Rivera said.
